D&D XP Calculator & Level-Up Tracker

Leveling up in Dungeons & Dragons 5e runs on cumulative experience-point totals, and it is easy to lose track of how far the next milestone really is. Type your current XP into this free calculator and it tells you your character level, fills a progress bar toward the next one, and shows exactly how many more experience points you need. The quick-award buttons let a Dungeon Master add encounter XP on the fly and the value is remembered in your browser between sessions. The full table lays out every threshold from level 1 (0 XP) to level 20 (355,000 XP), alongside the proficiency bonus you reach at each step.

FAQ

How much XP do you need to level up in D&D 5e?
The thresholds are cumulative totals: 300 XP for level 2, 900 for 3, 2,700 for 4, 6,500 for 5, then it keeps rising to 355,000 XP for level 20. To go from one level to the next you need the difference between the two totals.
What is milestone leveling?
Milestone leveling ignores experience points entirely: the DM levels the whole party up when they reach a story beat, such as clearing a dungeon or finishing a chapter. It keeps characters together and saves you tracking XP per encounter.
Do the XP thresholds change in the 2024 rules?
No. The 2024 Player's Handbook keeps the same experience point table as 2014, so this calculator works for both. What changed is more encouragement toward milestone or session-based leveling as an alternative.
How is XP shared between players?
The most common method is to total the XP value of everything the party defeated or overcame and divide it evenly among all characters who took part, so everyone advances at the same pace.
