D&D 5e Stat Roller & Ability Score Generator

Generate a full set of D&D 5e ability scores with whatever method your table uses — all in one place, free and with no login. Roll them the classic way with 4d6 drop lowest (or 3d6) and see every die, including the struck-through one that was dropped. Or take a balanced route: assign the standard array (15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8) to your abilities, or spend a 27-point buy with a full cost table, budget tracking and SRD racial bonuses. And if you want a roll that feels real, throw the digital 3D dice in the built-in dice roller — the result drops straight into your stat. Every score shows its modifier and the set total so you can compare methods side by side. Optional house rules include rerolling 1s before dropping the lowest die. And if your table builds on points, open the full Point Buy Calculator for the complete 27-point breakdown.

FAQ

What does 4d6 drop lowest mean?
You roll four six-sided dice, throw away the lowest die and add the remaining three together to get one ability score. Repeat six times, once for each ability. Dropping the lowest die makes scores skew higher than rolling 3d6 straight — the range is 3 to 18, but most results land between 10 and 15.
How do you roll stats in D&D 5e?
The standard method is 4d6 drop lowest: roll four d6, drop the lowest die, add the other three, and repeat six times. Assign the six scores to your abilities however you like. Balanced alternatives are the standard array (15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8) and the 27-point buy — ask your DM which method the table uses.
What is the average of 4d6 drop lowest?
A single 4d6-drop-lowest score averages about 12.24, so a full set of six averages roughly 73 in total. If your set totals well under that you rolled below average, and well over 73 means fortune favoured you — compare your total against 73 to see where your character sits.
Can I reroll 1s when rolling 4d6 drop lowest?
Rerolling 1s is a popular house rule, not part of the official rules — always check with your DM. This roller has an optional Reroll 1s setting: each die showing a 1 is rerolled once before the lowest die is dropped, which raises the average score from about 12.24 to roughly 13.3 (around 80 for the whole set).
Should I roll stats or use point buy?
Rolling is swingier and more memorable — you might end up with an 18 or a 6, and the character is shaped by what you get. Point buy and the standard array are balanced and predictable, so every player starts on equal footing. Ask your DM which method the table uses before you roll.
