Spell targeting

Cast a spell on yourself, on a player at your table or on a monster in the fight. Healing adds hit points, an effect like Bane or Bless lands on the target, and damage stays a plain roll.

A spell on the sheet used to end at the roll. The Cast dialog can also deliver it: healing goes into hit points, and an effect like Bane or Bless lands on another player's sheet or on a monster in the DM's Initiative.

The Target row

After you pick the slot, the Cast dialog shows a Target row with chips: Me, each player at your table and, during a fight, the monsters from the Table order module. Tap as many as the spell allows; Bane takes up to three. Me is picked in advance for spells without a saving throw, like healing or Bless.

The row appears only when the spell has something to deliver:

  • Healing spells (Cure Wounds, Healing Word) offer Me and the players at your table.
  • Spells with a lasting effect or with concentration offer Me, the players and the monsters.
  • Long buffs on willing creatures (Aid, Mage Armor, Longstrider) offer Me and the players. The effect has no countdown; the target removes it when it ends.
  • Spells with an attack roll never offer monsters or players, even when they leave an effect. Damage spells have no row at all: you roll, the DM takes the damage off.

Spells from your compendium follow the same rules, including your own spells written in Czech: the sheet recognises concentration, the duration, a saving throw (záchranný hod na Obratnost), healing (obnoví 2k8 životů) and damage (3k6 ohnivého zranění). An effect from a spell the condition list knows, such as Bless, Bane or Hex, reaches the other player and the DM with its own icon and colour, and with a one-line reminder of what it does (+1d4 to attack rolls and saving throws). A spell from your compendium can carry its own short note, set in the Compendium's Mechanics: spell block; the target sees it when accepting the effect and in the tooltip of the effect chip, and the DM sees it in the request in Initiative. An effect that changes rolls shows up in the roll window: with Bless on you, an attack or a saving throw gets a chip such as Bless +3 (1d4), already rolled and added to the total. Tap the chip to leave it out, and tap again to add it back. Bane takes the die off the same way, and Bardic Inspiration starts switched off, so you add it only when you spend it. When you cast Bless yourself, you get the bonus only if Me is among the targets. A spell from your compendium can set its own bonus in Mechanics: spell. Shield of Faith and Haste add 2 to your AC and Slow takes 2 off, on your sheet and in the DM's view; the same spell twice does not stack. When you cast Hex or Hunter's Mark, your attack window gets a button for the extra 1d6; tap it when you hit the marked target. Hex also adds its button below the damage of a spell that makes an attack roll, such as Eldritch Blast or Fire Bolt, but not to a spell with a saving throw like Fireball. Hunter's Mark follows your character's rules edition: with the 2014 rules it counts on weapon attacks only, with the 2024 rules on any attack, spells included. Whether a spell rolls to hit comes from its Spell attack field, so this works for spells from your compendium too. Monsters on the DM's side get no automatic bonus; the DM sees the reminder.

Monsters show up only while the DM's fight runs and your sheet is at the table. Without a table you see only Me.

Healing

Roll healing rolls the dice as before. Under the result, Add to: lists who gets it:

  • Your own name adds the healing to your Hit points module right away, up to your maximum.
  • A player's name sends it to them. Their sheet shows Corvus heals you +8 HP with Accept and Decline, and nothing changes until they accept. Without a Hit points module on their sheet the healing cannot be added.

An effect on a player

A player you picked gets the effect as a message, the same way the DM gives one. They confirm it on their sheet and the condition appears there with its duration. Under your roll, the target reads sent, awaiting accept.

An effect on a monster

A monster you picked becomes a request on the DM's side. In Initiative, the monster's row shows Bane ← Corvus with two buttons:

  • Apply puts the effect on the monster with its duration. On your sheet the target reads applied.
  • Saved means the monster made its saving throw. Your sheet reads saved.

The DM rolls the save their own way; nothing rolls it for them. Until they answer, the target reads waiting for the DM. A request without an answer for two minutes is dropped and reads no answer from the DM; cast again if you need to.

Casting the same spell on the same monster again refreshes its duration instead of adding a second effect.

When your concentration ends

When your concentration ends, because you drop it in the Conditions module, cast another concentration spell, fail the save after damage or die, the DM's Initiative removes your spell from every monster it was applied to. The DM's fight log says loses Bane (concentration Corvus). The DM can also remove the effect by hand at any time.

What it does not do

  • Damage is never applied to a target. Roll it, the DM subtracts it.
  • Spells with an attack roll (Fire Bolt, Guiding Bolt) cannot target a monster.
  • Area spells without picked targets (Fireball) have no target row.
  • Monster saving throws are not rolled for the DM.
  • Summoned creatures cannot be targeted.

Po volbě slotu ukáže dialog Seslat řádek Cíl s chipy: Já, každý spoluhráč u tvého stolu a během boje nestvůry z modulu Pořadí u stolu.

  • Léčivá kouzla (Cure Wounds, Healing Word) nabídnou Já a spoluhráče u stolu.
  • Kouzla s útočným hodem nenabídnou nestvůry ani spoluhráče, i když nechávají efekt.

  • Tvoje jméno ho hned přičte do modulu Životy, nejvýš do maxima.

  • Použít dá nestvůře efekt i s trváním.

Hodíš ho a DM odečte.
  • Kouzla s útočným hodem (Fire Bolt, Guiding Bolt) nestvůru cílit neumí.
  • Plošná kouzla bez vybraných cílů (Fireball) řádek Cíl nemají.
  • Záchranné hody nestvůr se za DM nehází.
  • Vyvolané bytosti cílit nejdou.
